Tech Tidbit – Flash Drill – How Would Your Team Handle This Total Blindside Event?

Today is a flash drill exercise.

The warm weather has arrived.  It is Thursday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend, and the district gave back an unused snow day, making it a four-day weekend. The weather forecast is ideal. Everyone is bugging out to enjoy themselves.

The junior network engineer and the helpdesk person have remained behind as you are in limited staff mode going into the holiday weekend.

They are packing up, thinking about leaving at the end of the day.

The Assistant Superintendent of Business says she cannot print or access a key SED website. And, oh by the way, the NYS Comptroller's office is showing up on Tuesday for the annual financial audit, so she and her team will be working on Friday and perhaps into the weekend to prepare.

Of course, no one informed your department that people were working on this important project when the district was closed.

This must be resolved so the district can be ready for Tuesday.

And because this is the junior engineer's lucky day, the senior engineer is still on his honeymoon in St. Lucia and cannot be reached by phone to assist.

The Assistant Superintendent of Business is staring at your two remaining staff members, asking when this will be resolved. She is under pressure from the Superintendent to be fully prepared for Tuesday's audit, and she needs to give the Superintendent some sort of answer.

How do you proceed to resolve this issue?

(I've had this occur.)

Good luck!
